I feel like closing this blog on a nice number: 50. also because blog assignments are over!!!
After these 50 posts
(and 3 years in RI),
i have come to a stunning but not surprising revelation.
RI SUCKS.
ZZZZ HCI HAS HOLIDAYS 11 DAYS BEFORE US. 11 DAYS. 11 DAYS. 264 HOURS!!!!
bleh.
We also appear to have the most school days, most tedious ccas, most screwed up politics, longest school history.....we also have russell wong
Holidays seem to be too kind on school-going-students. It creates this epic void in all students, who now have an average of 60 more hours a week to spend, and more hours of sleep than we need, only to be filled by Travels, more School, No-life playing around, going to the library everyday, part time work....
Students in singapore(especially those in better schools) seem to be unable to understand the meaning or leisure, or rest. a higher "high" is felt when playing in secret during exam period, as compared to in the open, with no exams or any care in the world anyway. They have to DO something MEANINGFUL.
I guess the same could be said for retirees. After a life of 9-5 office-hour-ing, hard work, overtime, working for a paycheck, rushing for a mortgage payment, paying overdue fines, gossiping, fearing retrenchment.... you end up with... nothing. all but a small amount of money which is a harsh reality of how much time you have left in life, (the money's enough), wrinkled skin, bald/balding head, a spouse who does nothing as well, (grand)children.... Its not really a very appealing future is it?
Well, thats for the poor/middle-class. For the rich, its a different story.
After a life of stock falls and rises enough to trigger two hundred heart attacks, block and unblock all your conorary arteries, and make even the most un-seasickable person seasick, you end up with money that you can actually drown in, a wig, false teeth, a spouse 50 years younger than you are, infants, arthritis, rhuematism, quintiple bypass surgeries... and children less than 10 years old fighting for your stock, which you're probably going to give to charity anyway. then you close your eyes and feel nothing. really appealing future ya.
What is the point then, of living life as it is? I dont have the answer to that. The most, or only thing you could do, in your whole life, is touch, teach, and make that difference, that sets you apart from the run-of-the-mail-oh-i-just-died-without-doing-anything-people. Touch hearts, Teach those with a lust for knowledge, Make a difference in the lives of those deserving, but deprived of happiness. and have children while doing all that.
Or maybe its to be a christian, walk a upright, blessed life, in God's statutes and doing as he had commanded, touching the hearts of yourself, of those around you, and of your descendants.
Life's over in a snap of a finger. the only logical thing to do, is to make that difference, and end up in heaven, with everlasting life and overflowing blessings.
Amen.
